FRONT SHOP MAGAZINE
Front Shop was launched in 1991 with the aim to raise the bar in the industry by informing and educating pharmacy staff. The tone of the magazine is informative, yet easy to understand. Doctors, pharmacists, nurses and medical students write the articles and a review board gets together once a year to evaluate the magazine and ensure that it meets industry needs.
Front Shop focuses on educating the Pharmacy Assistants. Pharmacy staff consists of both Pharmacy assistants and Pharmacist assistants, the distinguishing factor being that Pharmacist Assistants have to be registered with the Pharmacy Council, after completion of a pharmacist assistant course. This enables them to dispense products, under supervision of a pharmacist, up to schedule 4, and without supervision up to schedule 2.  Pharmacy assistants refer to the front shop lady that dispenses cosmetics and other schedule 0 or non-scheduled over-the-counter medication.
Front Shop has won numerous Pica awards as best magazine in the business-to-business retail category for excellence in magazine publishing.
PHARMACY ASSISTANT OF THE YEAR COMPETITION
The competition has been running for over a decade. The Front Shop assistants’ competition consists of various products that they dispense on a daily basis.  The competition runs from May to August every year.  Entrants have to complete a questionnaire every month consisting of 2 questions on each product, plus 2 general knowledge questions.
From the thousands of entries, the top 50 achievers are chosen.
The top 50 are then interviewed telephonically to ascertain their general product knowledge.
From there, the accumulated points from the magazine entries and telephonic interviews are tallied up to decide on the top 5 achievers. These 5 finalists are judged by a panel of 6 judges on a one-to-one basis to reveal the winner.  The Pharmacy Assistant of the Year is awarded during a prestigious event and winners walk away with fantastic prizes.
