Biochemic Tissue Salts – Cellular Nutrition

The human body is an extraordinarily complex organism comprising about 10-trillion cells. These are the smallest known units of life and the basic building blocks of all living organisms. From dermal to epithelial, approximately 210 various types of cells make up all the different parts of the body. Cells can be likened to factories within which numerous, assorted life-giving processes take place – activities that enable a living organism to survive and flourish. The health of each individual cell ultimately determines the overall health of the human body. It is at these cellular levels that Biochemic tissue salts exert their healing properties.

THE CHEMISTRY OF LIFE

The discovery that the human body is composed of an enormous number of tiny, living cells formed the basis for biochemistry, which is the chemistry of life that focuses on the structure and function of cellular components. Biochemists study the elements, compounds and chemical reactions that are controlled by enzymes and take place in all living organisms.

The word ‘cell’ comes from the Latin cellula, meaning ‘small room’. This term was coined in the 17th century by English physicist Robert Hooke – the first scientist to study and record cells – when he compared the cork cells he saw through his microscope to the small rooms that monks inhabited.

In 1839 Matthias Jakob Schleiden and Theodor Schwann developed cell theory which states that all organisms are composed of one or more cells; that all cells come from pre-existing cells; that vital functions of an organism occur within cells and that all cells contain the hereditary information necessary for regulating cell functions and transmitting information to the next generation of cells.

Rudolf Ludwig Karl Virchow is credited with  many important discoveries in the 19th century. This German doctor, anthropologist, pathologist, pre-historian, biologist and politician is referred to as the ‘father of modern pathology’ and is considered one of the founders of social medicine. His most widely known scientific contribution is the cell theory that built on the work of Schwann, plus he also founded the medical field of cellular pathology.

CELLULAR NUTRITION

It was established that each cell is made up of an infinitesimal but perfectly balanced quantity of three classes of material – water, organic substances and inorganic substances. Water and organic matter make up the greater portion of the body. The inorganic mineral elements however, although present in much smaller quantities, are really the most important active elements because they utilise organic substances to build the millions of cells of which the body is composed.

The life of each cell is short. They break down and new ones are constantly being built from materials supplied by the bloodstream. If blood is lacking in the inorganic elements required for building healthy new cells, the rebuilding process will be flawed and this will result in disease. Shortage or deficiency of one or more essential minerals may arise from a variety of causes such as injury, toxicity or stress, which interfere with the transport and assimilation of vital materials necessary for the repair and maintenance of living tissue. In the early 19th century a German doctor from Oldenburg, Wilhelm Heinrich Schuessler, discovered that the human body required only 12 simple inorganic remedies for optimum cellular nutrition. He named his system of medicine Biochemic Tissue Salts.

HEALTH-PROMOTING TISSUE SALTS

Schuessler was an outstanding intellect with a scientific vision way ahead of his time. A noted physiological chemist, homeopathic physician and physicist, he felt that the 2 000 homeopathic remedies in use during his time could be simplified. He was inspired by the work of European physiologists of the day such as Virchcow, who theorised that health and disease began at a cellular level and that the actual constituents of the body’s cells and tissues must have an effect on promoting and maintaining health. He therefore set about studying biological ashes based on the analysis and research of inorganic constituents of cremated human organs, tissue and other remains by Jacob Moleschott and Justus von Liebig. He identified 12 principal salts that he located in every human cell. These tissue salts or ‘cell salts’ are vital mineral constituents of the body, combining with organic substances to produce and maintain the infinite number of body cells. Common to all living things including plants and animals, the minerals are found in the soil and rocks of the earth. They are comprised of inorganic matter – the only substance that the cells cannot produce themselves – and are essential to health and life itself.

Schuessler established that if the cells were deficient in any of these inorganic salts, health would be compromised and ultimately disease would manifest. But if the deficiency was corrected, the body could heal itself. In raw, crude form however, the minerals would be toxic to the human body and the molecular size of the salts was too large for the body cells to assimilate. He therefore concluded that the structure of these tissue salts needed to be small, finely diluted particles as found in plants – mineral particles small enough to permeate the tiny openings of a cell membrane, minerals so minute they could no longer be considered solid substances. Only in this micro-structure could these minerals be of benefit to human and animal life. Schuessler thus applied his knowledge of homeopathic methods in order to prepare the tissue salts in a more diluted form. As a physician he was able to test his theories and the excellent results he achieved led to the formulation of his unique system of cellular therapeutics.

Today, tissue salts are usually prepared as tablets made up with lactose powder in a manner similar to homeopathic products. Each inorganic salt is ground (triturated) with lactose powder in a ratio of 1:9 and this mixture is then ground with fresh lactose, again in a 1:9 ratio. The process is repeated either three or six times, yielding a 1 000 to 1 dilution or a 1 000 000 to 1 dilution.

Schuessler’s Biochemic Cell Salts are minerals in an energy form. They are valuable micro-dose cell-foods prepared homeopathically in an extremely subdivided form which ensures rapid and easy assimilation for the speedy restoration of the natural balance of the body. Although diluted, they are not classed as homeopathic because they are not purported to act according to the ‘like cures like’ principle of homeopathy. Tissue salts function according to the ‘Law of Deficiency’, not the ‘Law of Similars’.

GENERATIONAL DEFICIENCIES

Plants extract minerals from the soil and assimilate them. Plants grown in balanced, organic soil absorb vital inorganic mineral tissue salts from the earth via the filtration of their roots. But modern industrial farming methods have overburdened and depleted the soil, so we no longer obtain sufficient mineral energies from our food.  Inadequate nutrition, stress, hectic lifestyles, industrially tainted foodstuffs, electro-pollution and environmental toxins – as well as exposure to heavy metals such as amalgam dental fillings, lead, aluminium and contaminated drinking water – all deplete the life-sustaining cell salts in our bodies.

The creation of new cells depends on the presence of these mineral energies. Mineral deficiencies will inhibit the proper functioning of living cells and make a person more prone to disease. If a mother lacks minerals during pregnancy then the child will lack these at birth and this can be carried down over generations, which will then become progressively weaker if the deficiency is not addressed.

Another aspect contributing to cellular deficiencies is that all other vitamins, minerals and nutritional supplements can only be absorbed into cells if the cells are already adequately mineral-enriched and balanced. If they aren’t, the cells struggle to absorb even the smallest amount of these substances because the cells then perceive them as ‘intruders’. This causes further stress to those cells that are lacking in minerals for the intra-and extra-cellular balance that allows other nutrients to enter.

Regular mineral replacement is necessary to re-establish the correct balance of cell salts to eliminate the cause of disease. With ingestion of the correct amounts of tissue salts the body can heal and restore itself from within and ensure the health of future generations.

EVERY FACE TELLS A STORY
Schuessler soon realised that mineral deficiencies could be detected in the face, sometimes long before they developed into health problems. Discolorations, shadows, wrinkles and furrows, loss of elasticity, sagging, dark colouring under the eyes, redness of the cheeks or face, red or pale ears, enlarged pores and pigmentation on the face or hands all give vital clues to tissue salt deficiencies. He understood facial analysis as an art and for him all such signs were clear indications of an impending disorder.

His followers, Dr Kurt Hickethier and Mrs W Sonner, continued his work in this field. They established Sonnerschau Facial Analysis and published a book in 1936. The signs of deficiencies can easily be corrected at an early stage by administering the right tissue salt. Facial analysis can help pinpoint acute and chronic deficiencies and requires no expensive diagnostic equipment. It is easy to learn and can be used by everybody. Books on facial analysis are available, as are consultations with trained facial analysts.

With accurate facial analysis and supplementation with the appropriate tissue salts, it is possible to correct imbalances at a cellular level, enabling the body to heal itself from within. As the cellular deficits are corrected, tone and texture of the face improve and signs of ageing can even be alleviated. With regular supplementation with the appropriate tissue salts, the cells can regain their vitality and function, leading to health and wellbeing.

SAFETY AND DOSAGE

Tissue salts correct the causes of disease. These safe and gentle minerals in a micro-molecular structure do not interfere with any medication, treatment or supplementation. Unlike drugs, tissue salts are not habit-forming, have no side-effects and one cannot overdose on them. They can be used by people of any age in any condition – pregnant women, children and the elderly – as well as animals and plants. They can be combined with conventional or complementary treatments.

The beneficial nutrients of tissue salts are not dependent on the digestive process. Tissue salts should be chewed or placed under the tongue and allowed to dissolve. As the tablet powder dissolves it frees the energy particles which are then absorbed by the semi-permeable membrane of the mucous lining of the mouth and enter the bloodstream, which then rapidly carries the energy particles to the cells and tissues of the body to absorb what they need.

The 12 tissue salts are available individually or as combination remedies from health stores and chemists.

Tissue salts help the body regenerate by providing the essential inorganic nutritional constituents to the cells to enable them to regain homeostasis and heal.
